Men in Trees

2 June 2008
Lisa Jaggi (Toddler)

It was inevitable I thought...Tarn was bound to wake up…right???  You couldn’t exactly expect a toddler to sleep through the roaring sound of chainsaws and men hooting and hollering above the roof tops as they completed the task of felling an almighty tree!  Nor could I expect these men, in all their glory, to quell their display as they took joy in providing for our family (in this case, more sun in the house and firewood for the winter).

My mission, apart from clearing tree debris out of the garden and making sure the power lines remained intact, was simply (or not so simply) to get Tarn to have his vital afternoon sleep in order to avoid the ‘4 o’clock grumpies’.   Like the true tactician I am, I had it all planned out…if push came to shove I’d relocate Tarn into the Mountain buggy (our trusty mobile bed) and hide it around the other, perhaps a little less noisy, side of the house, or maybe even down the road at a neighbours.

But…low and behold...Tarn stayed asleep like the little cherub he is…UNTIL of course…all suddenly became SILENT…as the job was done, the saws were still, and the men were mellow once more as their mighty task was complete!
Go figure.
