It's the small things...

“It’s the small things in life that count.”  A cliché maybe…but so true when it comes to camping while pregnant, as I discovered last week.
I have always considered myself to be a fairly confident camper!  I have always been happy to give up luxuries like a soft bed, pillows, and flush toilets for the experience of living directly under the sun and stars for a while.  However, I have come to the conclusion, that although my ridiculously thin camping mattress was suitably comfortable when not pregnant, and was ‘kind of’ comfortable in my first trimester…it simply doesn’t cut the mustard at 30 weeks pregnant!

This time, after numerous tests with various cushioning combinations on our livingroom floor, I decided it was necessary to break out the big guns!!!  Yep, in addition to the mountains of gear and outdoorsy toys we squashed into the van…in went a rather narrow, but oh so soft and squishy, not to mention THICK, foam mattress!  Bliss, I can tell you…it was bliss!  Not only did I manage to sleep soundly, but I was the envy of all other campers still resisting the urge to pack more than a piece of 1cm thick snow foam.

All in all our week away at the beach was a blast…sun, surf, sand, kayaking (not for me though…as I couldn’t squeeze into my spray skirt), and fishing.  Tarn even had an afternoon nap parked up in the Mountain Buggy down on the beach!  Bliss!
