The Event
6 June 2008
Craig Purnell (Father)
Flippin Heck. The waters have broken. Finally……three days late and I bet my Dad it would happen early. Still let us not worry about 50 pence. The contractions have started and its time to roll.
Check the bag is packed. Unpack it and pack it again just to make sure. Don’t forget the video camera! Wait there, where is the video camera?
My wife is looking like an overweight athlete who has just run the hundred metres. All heavy breathing with a stopwatch in hand.
The contractions are long, frequent and painful by the look on her face. It is obvious, this baby is not going to stay inside for much longer. It has made up its mind, enough is enough. Time to check out the family.
We drop our boy off with friends and speed to the birthing unit. Did I remember the video camera?
I am now reduced to back rubber and stopwatch, although my kind remarks on when I think the next contraction is due isn’t much appreciated.
Fill up the pool. We are having a water baby.
No sooner is the birth pool full with water and my wife in it when out pops (literally) a beautiful baby girl. I didn’t even have time to put on the trunks.
All in a days work and still in time for bedtime stories with my boy.
Goodnight.
