Camping with the Crew.

9 August 2008
Lisa Jaggi (Toddler)

Van packed, dog parked in his usual position in the back of the vehicle, Tarn buckled in, and one trip back to the house to retrieve a forgotten item later…and we were finally off on our little spontaneous mid-winter camping adventure.  After our speedy start we did hit a couple of road blocks: a rather challenging meal at a Chinese Take away place (Tarn was opposed to sitting nicely to eat his dinner on this particular occasion), and a bit of trouble finding the camp ground in the dark (let alone the acres of forest park it was supposed to be hidden inside).
However, we did arrive safe and sound, and ready for some R & R in the good old outdoors.  Tarn had a great time tripping over guy ropes in the dark, while Andy and I in turn tripped over Tarn, the dog, and our gear in our quest to get the tent set up using just the narrow beams of our head lamps.

Despite Tarn rolling off his mattress numerous times, and me tossing and turning on my skinny sleeping mat due to pregnancy induced insomnia, we woke up refreshed to find the weather almost balmy (well not really…but pretty good for mid-winter).  After a good breaky of porridge and toast, followed by a tramp in the bush, it was back to our camp site to roast sausages and marshmallows on sticks over an open fire.   What a great way to spend a weekend as a family, and apart from the petrol…it didn’t cost a thing!
