No not the holidays!

Melua Watson (Toddler)
Playcentre is closed, toddler gym is taking a breather and music has gone to la-la land. We are one week into the holidays and I'm wondering what we've done to pass the time apart from 'normal life'. Several trips to the local toddler-friendly cafe. Rugged up jaunts to the park. A couple of wintery mornings with play-dough and glitter. And the odd spot of experimental baking, with mixed results. (ANZACs really do need loads of golden syrup or they're just little rounds of hard porridge).
Fortuitously, a trip to the library revealed a holiday programme for under 5s. Today was face painting and Meg loved it, sitting quietly while blotches of purple and pink were swirled onto her cheeks and apple green striped over her nose.
There's nothing like a bit of a break to make you appreciate everyday things. I know how much Meg benefits from her regular get togethers with other kids and I must admit to finding a sense of calm in the predictability of having a routine. But having said that, the holidays present an opportunity to do things differently, get up late, make it up on the day. Pretty nice really.
